WELLIE-WEB -- THE COMPANY & ITS ETHOS
Wellie-Web is a web site trading name owned and run by Cedarstone Ltd. Cedarstone Ltd was born from a coming together of agricultural diversifications, its roots and foundations lie in the countryside of Worcestershire. The Managing Director Giles Palmer has worked with the company for over 13 years now and has been involved in the company's internet projects for nearly as long. The ethos of Cedarstone is simple: "do what we do and do it right". We utterly rely on good customer relations and that stems from getting the detail right every time.
Over the years the world-wide-web has gone through many iterations and seen the coming and going of many bright-stars, Cedarstone has managed to prosper and grow as the internet has expanded. Whilst Wellie-Web makes good use of technology it only does so to improve the experience for the customer and to streamline company operations. Some web sites have all sorts of fancy features that were born out of a graphic designer's wish to express his or herself, such as pointless intros before you can get to what you want, or annoying adverts that jump about at the side of the screen. At Wellie-Web we only add technology to the web site that will benefit the customer. For example on Wellie-Web if a pair of wellingtons are out of stock then you cannot "add them to the cart". It seems pretty basic stuff, if you haven't got the goods then you shouldn't offer them for sale, sadly this is not the case with most web sites.
Even today most web sites. (and virtually all our competitors) do not actually tell you if the item is in stock or not. The end result is that the customer often gets an email a few days later to say "sorry but we don't have that in stock, are you happy to wait?". For a customer there is nothing more annoying especially for wellington boots where manufactures themselves can have long periods without stock, leading to some customers waiting weeks for their wellingtons. We consistently get phone-calls from disgruntled customers who ordered elsewhere only to find the other company never actually had stock of their boot. Even worse some companies carry no stock at all and instead relying on manufactures to produce stock on demand which inevitably leads to even more problems. Cedarstone learnt very early on that you have to stock what you sell. For that reason Wellie-Web invests in a significant volume of stock and at most times of the year would hold in excess of 2,000 pairs of wellington boots. This is one of our advantages of being a "specialist" wellington boot retailer.
We also know what we are talking about when it comes to wellies. We have deliberately gone for the quality end of the wellington boot market but have had experience, albeit bad, of the cheap end. (See this FAQ entry as to why we don't sell cheap "patterned wellies".)
