Le Chameau - The company
In 1927 a shoe maker from Normandy in France called Mr Claude Chameau had the most fantastic idea of making crepe boots and that was how the Le Chameau legend was born. Traditional methods used by master boot makers were passed down from generation to generation. This savoir-faire is seen today in the choice of materials and care used in the manufacture of wellington boots.
At Le Chameau the wellington boot making skills are passed down from master craftsmen to apprentice. After 9 months of training the apprentices acquire the secrets of the wellington manufacturing process. This investment in human resources and technology guarantees a strain of quality that runs from manufacturing right through to after-sales care.
Every pair of Le Chameau boots is hand made. The natural rubber and materials used mean that only craftsmen can achieve the level of quality required by Le Chameau. With a natural rubber outer combined with different linings for different uses give the wellingtons all their legendry qualities, suppleness, resistance to wear-and-tear but above all outstanding comfort. Today Le Chameau offer a complete range of footwear and clothing to equip walkers, shooters, riders or anyone who simply wants to enjoy the countryside in comfort.
Le Chameau has been part of the Lafuma group since 1995, this has allowed Le Chameau to draw on the technical research facilities of Lafuma and their technical know-how to produce the very best products. Designs are made using a combination of traditional fabrics to give elegance and style combined with modern fabrics such as Gore-Tex®, Polar-Tec® fabric. When it comes to wellington boots considerable investment has been made into advanced sole design culminating in the Vibram® sole as used on both the Vega Evolution and the Veganord Evolution. These technologies bring to the Le Chameau range the very latest methods for the evacuation of moisture and retention of heat, waterproofness, breathability and the latest in wear and tear resistance.
All the way through manufacture the products are treated with care and a meticulous attention to detail, skilled labour and high precision machines all lead to an outstanding product. Quality of manufacture is checked right the way through the process, human controls are carried out at each stage of production. The durability of Le Chameau products is mechanically tested and the approval of the factories by W.L Gore ( Gore-Tex®) is an added guarantee of quality.
The Le Chameau quality does not stop at the factory gate when the goods leave. Not any retailer can stock Le Chameau products, only those that can demonstrate the ability to carry the Le Chameau ethos of quality at every stage, from purchase to after-sales care get selected by the company. This means that the Le Chameau quality will follow its products into the field of use.
